Like most good paintings, it started with a good drawing. The man in the drawing is a caricature of my favorite painter, Philip Guston.
I liked the drawing so much that I decided to make a painting-sketch. These are pieces of paper that I painted and then collaged. It gives me a better idea of what the painting might look like.
I sketched the drawing onto a large canvas and started painting.
This is an early version of the painting. I had an empty room and I needed to furnish it.
Then something snapped in my cerebral circuitry and it was obvious- fill the room with paintings of Pokémon
the more you paint the easier it gets! once you have momentum you're home free
